Forsante, a Finnish health technology company, has joined the CleverHealth Network (CHN), bringing its expertise in clinical process automation and AI to the collaborative ecosystem. The company’s aim is to transform healthcare delivery through intelligent digital solutions for care path automatization and clinical decision support. The particular focus of Forsante is on improving the adherence to clinical guidelines, and simultaneously on supporting resource optimisation in a changing demographic landscape.
A vision rooted in transformation
MD Mikko Tiihonen,Forsante’s Technical Director and a founding member, has long believed in the power of information technology to revolutionise healthcare. “Since the 1980s, it has been clear to us that demographic and technological changes will call for new solutions for healthcare,” Tiihonen explains. With an ageing population placing increasing demands on healthcare resources, Forsante aims to find ways to deliver better care with existing resources. The Forsante team of 10 experts is led by CEO Antti Särelä, who has spent his career in healthcare technology leadership roles.
A modular platform for clinical decision support
Forsante has developed a software platform designed to automate clinical processes for illnesses requiring ongoing monitoring. The company works primarily with Finnish wellbeing services counties, providing them with solutions that streamline patient care pathways. Over the past five years, Forsante has focused on developing IRMA, its proprietary logic-based AI engine. IRMA delivers decision-making support by implementing complex rule-based clinical guidelines, such as the Finnish national Current Care Guidelines (Käypä hoito), across a wide range of diseases.
This technology enables trustworthy application of complex clinical rules and guidelines, assisting healthcare professionals in decision-making. Forsante’s system meets regulatory requirements for demanding clinical decisions, achieving certifications suitable for applications such as medication management in schizophrenia. The modular, integrable platform allows rapid development of new use cases and can be embedded as a component in other healthcare systems.
Forsante’s solutions have proven benefits in routine clinical workflows. For example, at HUS Helsinki University Hospital, the company’s automated prostate cancer monitoring tool for laboratory result analysis was shown to save more than €100 per follow-up visit, thanks to increased efficiency. At the same time, the patient receives the result faster and the doctor saves time for actual patient work.

Forsante’s decision to join CHN is driven by the opportunity to collaborate and seek partnerships both in clinical application development and in delivering comprehensive solutions together with other member companies. One project is already under preparation with HUS and partners on decision support for pulmonary diseases. “We are eager to identify clinical challenges where our technology can make a difference and to combine forces with partners for holistic solutions,” Tiihonen notes.
CEO Antti Särelä emphasises the importance of demonstrating the effectiveness of new clinical services developed in partnership with CHN members. “We want to bring impactful solutions to Finnish healthcare, and we believe collaboration provides an excellent foundation for this,” he says. Mikko Tiihonen adds that Forsante also sees CHN as a potential launchpad for international expansion.
Antti and Mikko emphasise that achieving significant impact and cost-effectiveness in healthcare requires wise investments and innovation, and not only cost-saving measures in the wellbeing services sector. They highlight the need for practical validation through real-world collaborations, such as ongoing projects with HUS, and stress that productivity improvements must be implemented thoughtfully to ensure long-term sustainability.
