The software company Peili Vision has joined the CleverHealth Network ecosystem to promote effective collaboration in identifying and supporting children with neuroatypical challenges. The company has developed a computer-based, gamified test designed to speed up access to timely support and care for children aged 8–13.
Mikko Kontio, CEO and founder of Peili Vision, holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oulu. Kimmo Sainio is responsible for the company’s sales; he says that sales work in the healthcare sector is rewarding but often slow. The company employs four people in Finland and one in the UK.
Peili Vision is known for its EFSim solution, a clinically validated digital ADHD assessment tool and the world’s first digital ADHD test to be classified as MDR Class IIA. The game-based test provides objective information on a child’s executive function and concentration to support decision-making in schools and the healthcare sector. EFSim supports diagnosis and helps guide the child onto the right course of action at the earliest possible stage.
The solution is already widely used in schools, and in Jyväskylä, for example, all school nurses and school psychologists have access to the EFSim test. The test can be used to streamline support measures in schools, speed up ADHD diagnosis or identify the need for further assessment. The aim is to reduce delays caused by cumbersome and slow care pathways. The solution is also in use at HUS Paediatric Neurology and Psychiatry.
EFSim bears the CE mark and is approved as a medical device in several markets. The company’s main focus is on the UK, where the solution has been successfully introduced into school healthcare and where sales and roll-out are progressing more rapidly than in Finland. There, the decision-maker is usually the deputy headteacher, whereas in Finland, progress is slowed down by more complex structures and procurement models. In the UK, the EFSim solution is also being adopted within the public healthcare sector and is being piloted across several NHS Trust sites in the West Yorkshire region. Furthermore, EFSim is already in use by some private healthcare providers.
Collaboration within the CleverHealth Network
Through the CleverHealth Network, Peili Vision aims to verify the effectiveness of the EFSim solution more comprehensively from the perspective of the entire care pathway. The network offers expertise, particularly in impact measurement and the modelling of care pathways, for which a clear need has been identified.
Peili Vision brings to the CHN partnership experience of agile operations in a regulated sector, as well as a strong understanding of the school environment and care pathways. At some stage in its lifecycle, the company’s solution has already been used in around 180 schools. The aim of the collaboration is to identify how information on ADHD can be utilised more effectively across different services, to achieve cost savings and to provide support to children more quickly than before.
In the future, the EFSim paradigm could also be applied to the screening of other conditions, such as Alzheimer’s disease. The long-term aim is to establish a seamless, digital care pathway in which the flow of information between schools and the healthcare system supports care that is sensitive to neurodiversity and child-centred.
